MCC Hartford August 2026 Newsletter
Greetings dear members and friends,
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and made many memories to savor as we get ready to welcome in the change of seasons. Of course, we usher in the new season with the “Labor Day” holiday/weekend to celebrate our collective work together and to take time to rest from such labor.
Rest and self-care are important and Jesus did this often -- to spend time alone with God in prayer. The concept of Sabbath (rest) is rooted in the Creation story when God rested on the 7th day; blessing it and making it holy. This is a gift from God and a time to reflect, refresh, and relax.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that enjoying the “fruits of our labor” is also a gift from God. In chapter 3, verses 12-13 scripture says “I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil---this is the gift of God.” Jesus modeled this as well by reclining with his friends Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and others. Let us not forget Jesus ‘toiled’ by turning water to wine at the wedding at Cana and then enjoyed the celebration!
Dear friends, we are meant to enjoy a time of rest and find satisfaction in the good work that we do. So, let us eat, drink, and celebrate this weekend and enjoy the gifts of God…that are blessed and made holy for each of us. Many blessings on this (let’s rename it) NO Labor Day! And, may our labor always be a labor of LOVE. Amen? Amen!
Faithfully, restfully, and joyfully,
Pastor Aaron
